Reliance Peach on Nemaguard (Spring 2023)

A reliable cold-hardy peach for northern climates.

Reliance is one of our most cold-hardy peaches. It blooms late, with a showy display of flowers, and it is hardy in bloom, bud, and stem tissue. The fruit is medium sized, yellow fleshed with a dull red finish, sweet, and freestone. This tree is self-fertile; a second variety is not needed for pollination.

Reliance was developed in 1964 in New Hampshire by E. M. Meader, who in the course of his career developed over 60 new varieties, including new types of pumpkin, watermelon, raspberry, and bean. He did not believe in royalties or patents, and is quoted as saying: "I was working for the taxpayer, and the results of my work belonged to them." Meader was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1978 by the University of New Hampshire.
