Jonamac Apple on G.935 (Spring 2024)

A McIntosh cross with superior flavor. Also known as NY44428-5.

Jonamac is a productive, upright-spreading tree that is susceptible to scab and somewhat resistant to fireblight.

Ripening about a week before McIntosh, this apple is medium sized and washed a deep ruby red over green. It has a texture similar to that of McIntosh, but with a superior flavor. This is primarily a dessert apple. The apples hold well to the tree.

As you might guess, Jonamac is a cross of Jonathan and McIntosh. The tree was crossed in 1944, selected in 1955, and introduced in 1972.
