Stokes Poveshon appears to be the original NJ Poveshon.
Stokes Poveshon appears to be the original NJ Poveshon. There is still some testing to be done. We hope to have trees for sale and testing by 2026 and may have some scion available for 2025. The Stokes family of NJ has put in many hours of research sending samples to experts including the late, great apple detective Tom Burford https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Burford.
Tom had this to say; "Yesterday, I examined the fruit repeatedly and all indicators and documentation coincides to indicate that it is Poveshon. However, on the premise that it cannot ever be scientifcally proven that this apple is the Poveshon, it will be imperative that cider made from it be evaluated and deemed exceptional. Cider quality has been the determinant with many other questinable cier apple varieties. The quality of the Harrison cider reinforced my certainty of it and the ciders of three Taliaferro candidates disqualified them. At this point I would call it the Poveshon and when apples are available, make cider for evaluating. Congratulations to you both and to Wes Stokes, who now is guardian of the tree from which all other Poveshons will come" Oct 19, 2015
