AC™ Harrow Gold Pear on OHxF 87 (Spring 2025)

A delicious Canadian pear cultivar with good fireblight resistance. Also known as Harrow Gold, HW616.
This tree is midsized and more upright in comparison to the somewhat spreading habit of Bartlett. It is realibly productive with no tendency to biennialism. Home growers will appreciate that AC™ Harrow Gold has demonstrated good resistance to fireblight. The tree is cold hardy and has produced a full crop after winter temperatures of -20°F. It blooms a couple of days before Bartlett, and it is pollen compatible with Bartlett, Seckel, Harvest Queen, and Old Home. AC™ Harrow Gold will pollinate Harrow Delight, but Harrow Delight will not pollinate AC™ Harrow Gold.
Maturing about two weeks before Bartlett, the fruit is medium sized, slightly smaller than Bartlett, with sizing improved by thinning. The skin is smooth and golden yellow with a very slight blush. The flesh is creamy white and exceptionally juicy. AC™ Harrow Gold has an outstanding flavor with an excellent balance of sugar and acid. These pears have little or no grit cells.
AC™ Harrow Gold is a cross of Harvest Queen and Harrow Delight that was first made in 1975 at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Center at Ontario, Canada. This disease-resistant breeding program has also produced Harvest Queen, AC™ Harrow Crisp, and AC™ Harrow Delight. AC™ Harrow Gold was selected in 1981, trialed between 1987 and 1999, and released in 2000.
