Stembridge Cluster Apple on G.16 (Spring 2025)

You are viewing a tree that will ship in Spring 2025. You can also find trees for Spring 2024.

A traditional bittersharp cider apple from Somerset, England.

Hardy to zone 4, this tree is precocious and productive. It does tend strongly to biennialism and will need diligent thinning. Stembridge Cluster is susceptible to scab and canker, and very susceptible to fireblight.

The apple is small, green-yellow striped and flushed red. As you would expect from the tree's name, the fruit often grows in clusters. It yields a juice that is sharp to bittersharp, and valued for both baking and cider. Eve's Cidery writes that it is a "good bittersharp that can exhibit petrol qualities."

Stembridge Cluster hails from the cider country of Somerset, England. Somerset and Herefordshire are the two areas traditionally associated with the production of small-batch, artisanal ciders that use heirloom apple varieties.
