Court Royal Apple Scionwood (Spring 2024)

A vintage-quality cider apple from Devon.

This is a vigorous, spreading tree that, like many heirlooms, is somewhat disease susceptible. It has a tendency to biennialism and is slow to bear. Court Royal is a triploid and two other varieties will need to be present for full pollenization.

This apple is medium-large with green skin and a coarse, sweet flesh. It produces a complex, aromatic juice that makes an excellent medium-dry single-varietal cider, but the fruit is also suitable for fresh eating. It does not store well.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
