Get 30% off mystery apple and plum trees, our once-a-year special while they last
What do Donald Rumsfeld and Cummins Nursery have in common? Sometimes they get confused and try to put a positive spin on it.
Each year a small percentage of our trees end up in the barn with no labels – the Mystery Trees. How does it happen? Human error. We can't blame the trees or computers. There are numerous opportunities in the lifecycle of a nursery tree for positive identification to be confounded.
Thus, these are not fruits from another planet or specimens unknown to pomologists. It's just that we lost track and we can't tell by looking. So we offer them to the public at a big discount to encourage folks to introduce some adventure into their orchards. Mystery trees can be fun gifts, too.
Mystery trees come in several flavors, best described using the Rumsfeld Scale of the mid-2000s:
(1) The "Known-Unknowns"
We know the scion and not the rootstock.
(2) The "Unknown-Knowns"
We do not know the scion but we know the rootstock.
(3) The "Unknown-Unknowns"
Dreaded! Unless you are an ADVENTUROUS ORCHARDIST!
This year we have a small batch of Category 2, Unknown-Knowns:
Mystery Apple on G.41 dwarf - 150 in stock
Mystery Apple on G.11 dwarf - 44
Mystery Apple on G.935 semidwarf - 76
Mystery Apple on B.9 dwarf - 23
Mystery Plum standard size - 14
You do not need a coupon for the mystery trees!
They are priced on the web site to show the 30% discount PLUS any applicable wholesale discounts for your tier (when you are logged in) or if you put more than 20 trees in your cart.

These trees were a custom grafting order that was canceled, so this is your chance to get a rare heirloom at a great discount.
In its day, Opalescent was considered one of the best culinary apples available. Tasters find floral and tropical notes, sometimes a hint of strawberries. It stores well for about two months. The tree is vigorous, upright-spreading, productive, and hardy.
Use code OPAL25 on the checkout screen. Good through Sunday, April 11, 2021.

Historic American Fruit Trees collection, last chance for Spring 2021
These apples and pears were grown in North America during the Colonial Era and through the time of the American Civil War.
Some of them have enjoyed centuries of sustained public life, while others faded from view as the populist stars of the 20th century dominated grocery stores. Today a renewed interest in "all things orchard" brings these heirloom classics back into circulation to the delight of hobbyists and growers across the country. What's left today:
Spitzenberg Esopus on G.11 dwarf - 42 in stock
Roxbury Russet on G.890 half-standard - 1
