Early Red Peach on Peach Seedling (Spring 2023)
Early Red is a new variety which was a chance seedling from a farm in TN.
Early Red is a new variety which was a chance seedling from a farm in TN. It has proven to be tough in the up and down conditions of the south and mid Atlantic states. It is a late bloomer and requires 850 chill hours. It ripens three weeks before Redhaven and is recommended for zones 5-9. In Ithaca, NY it ripens mid July. Early Red is a cling stone. Clingstone peaches are perfect for canning because they hold their shape. Personally, I find clingstones to be a more pleasurable eating experience. The peach has some texture and is not as messy to eat fresh. Donut peaches are clingstone and the flavors are quite exotic. If you are looking for an early, high quality peach then Early Red is definitely worth a try.
