Old Nonpareil Apple on G.935 (Spring 2024)

A great heirloom apple for collectors. Also known as Nonpareil, Original Nonpareil, Reinette Nonpareil, English Nonpareil.

The tree is upright, productive, and very vigorous. It is susceptible to fireblight.

Ripening late in the season (late October in NY), the apple is medium sized, yellowish green with a brownish-red blush. The flesh is crisp and tender with a rich and aromatic flavor, but the full flavor of this apple is not realized until it has been in storage for a few weeks. Excellent for eating and baking.

Old Nonpareil likely originated in France and was brought to England in the mid-1500's. It became popular in New England in the 19th century. This apple likes to toot its own horn: Nonpareil means "unmatched" or "unrivalled."
