Jefferson Plum on Myrobalan (Spring 2027)

A delicious, gage-type European plum .

This is a medium-large tree, with an attractive, spreading habit. Jefferson is early blooming and not self-fertile; it will need to be grown with another European plum for cross pollination. It can be slow to bear, but it's worth the wait.

Ripening late in the season, Jefferson is a medium-sized clingstone plum with golden-yellow skin and yellow flesh. It is of the highest quality for fresh eating, with a sweet, rich flavor typical of gages. These plums can be harvested over the course of several weeks, a plus for the home gardener.

It is possibly a seedling of Washington or of Golden Drop, but the parentage of Jefferson is not known certainly. It was introduced to the Massachussetts Horticultural Society in 1829 by Judge Bruel and remains a popular variety in America, England, France, and Germany.
