CrimsonCrisp™ Apple on B.118 (Spring 2023)

An excellent, scab-immune dessert apple. Also known as Co-op 39.

CrimsonCrisp™ is field immune to scab but mildly susceptible to cedar-apple rust, fireblight, and mildew. It is an upright tree with a rounded canopy.

The fruit is medium sized, slightly flat, blushed a deep pinkish red over yellow. The flesh is yellowish, coarse grained, and crisply breaking. The flavor is superior; it is honeyed and aromatic with notes of caramel. CrimsonCrisp™ has a long harvest season–about a month–and it holds well to the tree. It is an outstanding dessert apple that stores well and is firm enough to please most bakers.

The original seedling was derived from a cross between two breeding selections (chosen for scab resistance) made in 1971 by the Purdue, Rutgers, Illinois Universities. Its parentage includes Rome Beauty, Jonathan, and Golden Delicious.
