This is a spreading, medium-low vigor tree with no known disease resistances or susceptibilities. The tree is expected to be hardy to zone 4. In spring, Lucy™Rose will put out an eye-catching display of red bloom.

Ripening about a week after Honeycrisp and McIntosh, this apple develops its remarkable, deep red flesh only when fully ripe and its starches have dissipated. The flesh is crisp, breaking, and juicy, with a sweet-tart flavor. Tasters detect either berry or floral notes. This is an advance for red-fleshed apples, which are often too tart to appeal to many palates. Lucy™Rose is a pretty, mid-sized, pink-red, apple with conspicuous lenticels. It looks like an enormous strawberry! As an added bonus, the red flesh will not oxidize after slicing, making this a great apple for salads and cheese boards, etc.  This fruit stores for up to four months.

This apple is Howell TC2, and the name Lucy™Rose is a trademarked name. Lucy™Rose and Lucy™Glo (Howell TC3) both originate from a 2001 cross of Airlie Red Flesh and Honeycrisp. Lucy™Rose was selected in 2010.
