A modern russeted apple from Steve Edholm.
Little is known about the disease susceptibilities and resistances of Dutch Master at this time.
The trees make varied sizes of fruit, from small to large that ripen in early fall. The apples have a russeted skin with red stripes. It has very firm flesh and a rich, tart, fruity flavor. It holds its form well when cooked.
Dutch Master was developed by independent breeder Steve Edholm as a part of his self-reliance educational project called SkillCult. Steve Edholm started his breeding program in the early 2010’s and has incorporated many varieties, including some red-fleshed varieties that were developed by Albert Etters. He has produced several apple varieties and makes educational content about apple breeding and more on his YouTube channel. There is a premium charge of $5 on each tree that goes to the SkillCult project.
