Benton® PC7146-8 Cv.(USPP 15847) Cherry on Gisela 6 (Spring 2025)
A high-quality, self-fertile, sweet cherry. Also known as Benton, PC7146-8, Columbia.
This is a vigorous tree with an upright, spreading habit. It is self-fertile and blooms 3-5 days later than Bing, potentially avoiding late frosts. Data is not yet available on the disease resistance of this cultivar.
Ripening with Bing, this is a large, firm, crack-resistant sweet cherry with outstanding flavor. It is rated highly in consumer evaluations and may well become the new standard sweet cherry for many growers. For the home grower, this is the Holy Grail of sweet cherries: flavorful, productive, and self-fertile.
Benton® was developed by Tom Tomaya. This cross of Stella and Beaulieu was made in 1971 at Prosser, WA. It was selected in 1998 by Greg Lang and released in 2005 by Matthew Whiting.
