Sureprince Peach on BY520-9. Nematode Resistant Peach/nectarine (Spring 2025)

A reliable peach ripening about a week before Redhaven. Also known as Sure Prince.

This tree is vigorous and productive. Fruit will need to be thinned to obtain optimal size. Sureprince is moderately resistant to bacterial spot. The tree is late blooming and produces a showy display of pink flowers. The tree also has a chill requirement of 900-950 hours. Because of the long chill and late bloom, it is considered to be a very reliable cropper. Sureprince is self-fertile and a second variety is not required as a pollenizer.

Ripening about a week before Redhaven, the peach is firm, semi-clingstone, and is medium sized at around 2-1/2". It is 80% red with some yellow in the background.

Sureprince was selected in 1983, tested as BY81P1216, and introduced in 1998. Sureprince comes from the same W.R. Okie breeding program that produced Rubyprince, Julyprince, and Augustprince. These peaches are named in honor of the venerable peach breeder Victor Prince.
