A highly flavored, late-season dessert apple, perfect for organic production.
Cameo Apple on G.41 (Spring 2026)
A delicious modern dessert apple with outstanding storage quality. Also known as Caudle, Carousel.
This tree is vigorous, with a spreading, open habit. It is hardy, precocious, productive, and reliably annual. It is susceptible to fireblight, scab, CAR, and powdery mildew.
If you can't decide whether you prefer Golden Delicious or Red Delicious, this might be the apple for you. A chance seedling found growing on a block of Red Delicious near a block of Golden Delicious, Cameo is likely to be a cross of those two varieties, and it has many of the desirable characteristics of each. The fruit is red striped over yellow-green, and is slightly rounder than a Red Delicious. The flesh is firm, white, crisp, and juicy, with an aromatic, subacid flavor. Cameo stores very well - up to 12 months! - and it is an excellent dessert apple.
This chance seedling appeared in an orchard in Dryden, WA in 1987. In 2008 and 2009, this apple beat the famed Cox's Orange Pippin to win the award for tastiest apple at the National Fruit Show in Kent, England.
