Ambrosia Apple on G.214 (Spring 2026)
A sweet, crisp apple from British Columbia.
Vigorous, upright-spreading, and reliably annual, this is a precocious and productive tree that shows some resistance to powdery mildew.
Ripening mid-late season, around the same time as Jonagold, Ambrosia is an attractive medium-sized apple. It is thin skinned, with a pinkish red flush over a yellow background. The flesh is very crisp, with a sweet, low acid, spicy flavor that has it competing with Honeycrisp and Pink Lady in supermarkets. Ambrosia stores well for up to four months and it is slow to brown after cutting. This is a great apple for snacking, salads, and it even bakes nicely.
Ambrosia originates from western Canada where it was discovered as a chance seedling in an orchard of Jonagold trees at Cawston, British Columbia. The parentage is likely Starking Delicious x Golden Delicious. It was first propagated in 1990 by Wilfred Mennell.
