A cold-hardy Asian-type pear developed by the University of Minnesota. Also known as MN 121.
Juicy Jewel™ is very winter hardy and will be pollinated by a wide range of pears, including Summercrisp, one of its parents. This tree has demonstrated good resistance to fireblight.
Ripening around a month earlier than other Asian pears, this is a small, perfectly snackable Asian-type pear, with a remarkable, tropical flavor. The flesh is crisp, juicy, and sweet. The fruit does not require post-harvest ripening, and it will store for up to three months.
This is the first Asian-type pear developed by the University of Minnesota. It is a cross between Shinseiki and Summercrisp.
