Fiesta Apple on G.11 (Spring 2026)

A mid-late season dessert apple, cross of Cox's Orange Pippin and Idared. Also known as Red Pippin.

Fiesta has a wide-angled and droopy habit that can be difficult to train. It is moderately disease resistant, particularly resistant to mildew, but susceptible to perennial canker and bitter pit. The tree is very vigorous, highly productive, and partially self-fertile. A pollenizer will, however, be needed for optimal production. The leaves display a green-yellow mottling; this is genetic and not a disease symptom.

A cross of Cox's Orange Pippin and Idared, Fiesta has the sweet, complex acidity of Cox's with the manageability and storage potential of Idared. The fruit is medium sized, red and orange streaked over a green-yellow background, with creamy white flesh. The flavor is excellent and aromatic, as you would expect of a Cox's offspring. Fiesta is a great choice for Cox's fans who want a less problematic tree.

Fiesta was developed in 1972 by Frank Alston at the East Malling Research Station. In 1993 it was granted the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society.
