Jam Session™ Plum on Marianna GF 8-1 (Spring 2021)

An late-season, self-fertile plum, ideal for preserves. Also known as NY 111, NY 58.911.1.

This tree tends to biennialism and will need diligent pruning to maintain regular bearing. It is highly resistant to black knot and brown rot, and trial plantings show no evidence of brown rot even in wet weather on unthinned fruit. Jam Session™ is partially self-fertile, but for optimal fruit set and quality European plums should always be planted with a pollenizer nearby.  The developers recommend Damson and NY 9™.

Jam Session™ ripens at the end of plum season, about two weeks after Stanley. The fruit is small, comparable to Damson, with purple skin and yellow flesh that is partially freestone. The flavor has a good fruity character with no astringency. This plum is highly recommended for jams and jellies. The cooked fruit is a beautiful deep, purple-red that is slow to oxidize.

Jam Session™ is an open pollinated seedling of Late Muscadet, bred by John P. Watson. It was crossed in 1958 and selected in 1978.
