Ripening in mid-September, Pixie Crunch® is field immune to apple scab, fairly resistant to fire blight, but suscepible to cedar-apple rust and powdery mildew. The tree is spreading with a spindly tendency that will require thoughtful pruning. Fruit should be thinned to maintain annual bearing.

Apples get too big. Who wants to eat an apple that weights half a pound?" Having Golden Delicious and Rome Beauty in its ancestry, Pixie Crunch is a deep red jewel with yellowish flesh that is sweet, rich, and spicy. The texture is exceptionally crisp and breaking, comparable to Honeycrisp. This apple is perfect for home gardens and U-pick orchards.

Pixie Crunch® is one of the many scab-resistant varieties developed by Purdue, Rutgers, and Illinois Universities. The cross of two breeding selections was made in 1971 and the selection was made in 1978.
