A new test variety from Minnesota with exceptional storage life. Also known as MN 1980.
This tree is spreading, hardy, vigorous, and reliably annual. The University of Minnesota states that it is very resistant to scab and somewhat susceptible to cedar-apple rust.
From the University of Minnesota product page: "'MN1890' produces attractive fruit with occasional stem bowl russeting. It has demonstrated excellent scab tolerance, good fresh eating qualities and long storage life. This variety may be especially suited to direct market and organic producers." The apple is red, striped and flushed over yellow-green with a slightly flattened shape. Its appearance is similar to that of Honeycrisp, one of its parents. Its harvest date is about a week after Honeycrisp, late September in Minnesota, and it is said to store well for nine months.
MN1980 is a cross of Honeycrisp and Liberty.
