The tree is vigorous and prolific. It is moderately susceptible to the major apple diseases and especially susceptible to cedar-apple rust. While Pink Lady® Cripps Pink cv. will do just fine in zone 5, we recommend zones 6 and higher for fully ripe fruit; it requires a very long growing season. A low chill hours requirement also make this a great tree for southern states. Growers will find that the juvenile tree produces inferior fruit, but that quality will improve significantly as the tree matures.

The apples are elongated and somewhat blocky. The golden-yellow skin is flushed bright pink and starred with lenticels. If the fruit is not pink enough, you will not see it in the Pink Lady® Cripps Pink cv. bin at the supermarket; any apple that does not meet the Pink Lady® Cripps Pink cv. standards for color and sugar is sold as Cripps Pink, which is actually the name of the tree, whereas "Pink Lady" denotes only those apples that are deemed worthy. The quality of the fruit is tightly controlled by the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia. With a sweet-tart and tropical flavor, this apple is for fresh eating and it is a great salad apple as it does not brown after slicing. Pink Lady® Cripps Pink cv. stores well but bruises easily.

Pink Lady® Cripps Pink cv. is a cross of Golden Delicious and Lady Williams. It was developed by John Cripps, who also bred Cripps Red (Sundownder® Cripps II cv.).
