Redhaven Peach on BY520-9. Nematode Resistant Peach/nectarine (Spring 2025)

The gold standard of peaches.

Redhaven is a vigorous, precocious tree that shows some resistance to bacterial spot but is susceptible to peach-leaf curl. The tree and buds are hardy, and crops are reliable. Thinning and pruning are necessary. This variety is self-fertile and a second variety is not required as a pollenizer.

Redhaven revolutionized the peach industry in the 1940s and replaced Elberta as the gold standard of peaches. It has remained America's favorite peach ever since. It puts out a profuse show of fragrant bloom in the spring and fruit maturation of Redhaven (around August 8 in NY) is the date relative to which the maturation dates of other peaches are recorded. Ripening and harvest are extended, a problem for commercial growers and a blessing for the home orchardist. The fruit is medium sized and firm enough to stand up to commercial handling and shipping. The flesh is slow to brown and has excellent flavor. Redhaven is a not a fully freestone peach; the flesh does cling slightly.
