Sunrise (pear) Pear Scionwood (Spring 2025)

Sweet, juicy, and disease resistant. Also known as OHUS 66170-047.

Sunrise was developed with the home orchardist in mind: it is resistant to fireblight and moderately resistant to pear scab. It is somewhat susceptible to powdery mildew. The tree is moderately vigorous and upright-spreading.

This is a pretty yellow pear with a pink blush. The flesh is firm, juicy, and aromatic. Sunrise is harvested about 2 weeks before Bartlett, and it will store for about 3 months. Full ripeness is attained about 8 days after harvest.

Sunrise is a cross of two breeding selections. The cross was made in 1965, and Sunrise was selected in 1977 and released in 2006. It has Bartlett, Seckel, and Comice in its ancestry.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
