A very beautiful heirloom apple that stores well.
Spencer Apple Scionwood (Spring 2025)
A cold-hardy cross of McIntosh and Golden Delicious. Also known as Summerland S-5-4.
This is a vigorous, upright tree that is very winter hardy. It has some resistance to cedar-apple rust. Spencer is slow to bear but reliably annual once in production.
The apple large and oblong, blushed light red over green. The highly flavored flesh is white, crisp, and juicy. It will store well through winter.
Spencer was developed at the Summerland Experimental Farm in Canada. It is a progeny of McIntosh and Golden Delicious, crossed in 1926 and selected in 1938. It was released commercially in 1959. It was named in honor of Spencer Dyson, a Summerland pomologist.
