Dolgo Crab Apple Scionwood (Spring 2025)

A self-fertile Siberian crabapple with excellent disease resistance. Also known as Pink Glow.

Dolgo is an outstanding all-purpose crabapple. Being from Russia, it is extremely cold hardy. It also has good resistance to fireblight, cedar-apple rust, and mildew, making it an obvious choice for the home gardener or the organic grower.

With its profuse display of pure-white bloom that lasts for weeks, this tree is already a landscaping winner in spring. When covered in bright red ripening fruit, Dolgo looks like a decorated Christmas tree. The early-mid season fruit is slightly elongated, crimson, and about 1.5 inches. It is sweet-tart and tannic, a refreshing little snack. Dolgo is a great tree for landscaping and pollination. The fruit, as it holds very well to the tree, can be used to attract wildlife and it also makes a stunning red sauce or jelly. It can be helpful in cider blending, but care should be taken of the very high acid content.

This crab was imported to South Dakota from Siberia by Niels Hansen in 1897. Dolgo is the Russian word for "long."

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
