Arlet Apple Scionwood (Spring 2025)

An excellent dessert apple from Switzerland. Also known as Swiss Gourmetâ„¢.

This tree is very productive with good fireblight resistance. It is, however, susceptible to scab, powdery mildew, and cedar-apple rust. Arlet is very cold hardy, and it requires thinning to maintain annual productivity.

Arlet, more commonly called Swiss Gourmet in the United States, is a Swiss cross of Golden Delicious and Idared that has inherited the excellent storage quality of its parents. The medium-sized fruit is red over a yellow background, with a yellowish flesh. Its fine, sweet flavor is a complex balance of acids and sugars and it will hold in storage for about three months. This apple is good for fresh eating and baking.

Arlet was developed by Berhard Krapf at the Switzerland Research Station in the late 1950s. It was patented in 1989.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
