Yellow Egg Plum Scionwood (Spring 2024)

A yellow European plum prized for baking and preserves. Also known as Pershore Egg, Yellow Pershore.

This tree is partially self-fertile, but significantly better crops will be obtained when it is paired with another European plum. Productive, cold hardy, and disease resistant, this tree is very grower friendly.

The fruit is large and egg shaped, with yellow flesh and yellow skin. Though traditionally used for baking and preserves, Golden Egg is also a great fresh-eating plum when fully ripened on the tree.

Yellow Egg's alternative name, "Yellow Pershore" refers to the town of Pershore, Worcestershire, which has been renowned for plum production since the medieval era. The Pershore Yellow Egg was found growing wild in Tiddesley Wood on the outskirts of the town in the early 19th century, and by 1870 the plum was being grown commercially in large quantities. Today the town of Pershore hosts an annual Plum Festival, or Plum Fayre, which celebrates not just the Yellow Pershore, but also the Purple Pershore and a number of other varieties cultivated in the area.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
