Sylvia Cherry Scionwood (Spring 2024)

A compact and crack-resistant sweet cherry.

Sylvia is a low-vigor, compact tree that is perfect for growing in containers. The tree is not self-fertile (Pollen Group IX according to Bob Andersen NYFQ 11.2 2003), and it will require another mid-late blooming cherry as a pollenizer. Regina is a good pollination partner for Sylvia.

The fruit is large and dark red. Ripening at the same time as Bing, it is firmer and sweeter than Bing.

Sylvia is a cross of Van and Sam, made in 1957. It was not released by Summerland until 1988.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
