The rock-star, cold-hardy apple from Minnesota.
Pine Golden Pippin Apple Scionwood (Spring 2024)
A 19th century dessert apple with a unique pineapple flavor.
Pine Golden Pippin is a prolific and moderately vigorous tree that is somewhat susceptible to fireblight. This tree has a late bloom and care should be taken when choosing a pollenizer. Thinning is recommended to maintain fruit quality and annual bearing.
Pine Golden Pippin is a small apple that is fully russeted with light dots. Popular in the 19th century, Robert Hogg wrote of this apple that it is "one of the best dessert apples." He described the flesh as "yellowish white, very tender and juicy, with a fine, sprightly, and distinct pineapple flavor." The fruit will store well for about two months.
The origin of this apple is unknown. It is thought to have first been cultivated in England or Scotland.
