Jonalicious Apple Scionwood (Spring 2024)

A beautiful, fireblight-resistant dessert apple that stores well.

Jonalicious is a vigorous, upright tree that is hardy and productive. It blooms late, and care should be taken when choosing pollenizers. This variety is highly fireblight resistant!

This mid-late season apple matures about seven days after McIntosh. It wears a beautiful solid cherry-red blush over a yellow background, and the firm, crisp flesh is richly tart. It will store well for up to 120 days in regular refrigeration and will continue to sweeten in storage. Jonalicious has become something of a cult favorite in the Midwest.

Assumed to be a cross of Jonathan and Red Delicious, Jonalicious was actually found as a chance seedling in 1933 in Abilene, Texas. The discovery was made by Anna Morris Daniels, and the apple was introduced to markets in 1960 by Stark Bros. Nurseries.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
