Fenouillet Gris Apple Scionwood (Spring 2024)

A French heirloom famous for its anise flavor. Also known as Anise, Fennel Apple, Pomme d'Anise, Spice Apple.

This tree is slender and quite productive.

The fruit is smallish and asymmetrical. The skin is russeted over a red-yellow background, and the flesh is finely textured and crisp. This apple is one for connoisseurs: it has a richly spicy, distinctly anise flavor ("Fenouillet" is related to "fennel"), and it was so prized in France that it was among the small handful of varieties originally selected for planting at Versaille.

First described in 1608, Fenouillet Gris originated in Anjou, France.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
