A highly flavored, late-season dessert apple, perfect for organic production.
Airlie Redflesh Apple Scionwood (Spring 2026)
A delicious red-fleshed apple from Oregon. Also known as Hidden Rose®, Newell-Kimzey, Aerlies Redflesh, Schwartz Apple.
This is a cold-hardy tree commonly rated to zone 4, but potentially hardy at zone 3b.
The apple is medium sized with green-yellow skin, diffuse white lenticels, and a distinctly elongated shape. The flesh is bright pink, crisp, and juicy. More importantly, Airlie Redflesh has a reputation for being one of the best flavored of the red-fleshed apples. It is sweet-tart with notes of citrus and berries. Some tasters comment on a candy-like flavor. Storing well for up to three months, it is suitable for fresh eating and baking, and it produces a rich, pink juice valued by cider producers in the Pacific Northwest.
This apple is a chance seedling from Airlie, OR. Trademarked as as Hidden Rose® by Thomas Paine Farms in 2001, it was first discovered on the family farm of Lucky and Audrey Newell in the 1960's. Airlie Redflesh is likely the same tree as Mountain Rose, also native to Oregon.
