Holiday Apple Scionwood (Spring 2026)

An excellent dessert apple that's great for winter baking.

A vigorous, upright tree that is cold hardy and easy to grow. We expect that it is susceptible to apple scab, as are both its parents.

Ripening about a month after McIntosh, Holiday is a deep red apple with conspicuous lenticels. A cross of Macoun and Jonathan, it has the attractive white flesh of Macoun along with the rich, sweet, and spiced flavor of Jonanthan. This apple will store well through December and is great for fresh eating and baking.

Holiday was bred by Dr. Freeman S. Howlett, a researcher at the Ohio Stae University, who was also responsible for Melrose, Franklin, Ruby, and Holly. This cross of Macoun and Jonathan was made in 1940, tested as Ohio 6187, and released in 1965.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
