Maiden Blush Apple Scionwood (Spring 2026)

A multi-purpose American heirloom . Also known as Vestal, Lady Blush.

Moderately susceptible to fireblight, Maiden Blush is an otherwise healthy and productive tree. It is vigorous and precocious with an upright-spreading habit. Like many heirlooms, it tends to biennialism and will benefit from diligent pruning and thinning.

This apple lives up to its name: its delicate, yellow skin is blushed pretty pink. Ripening late summer, the flesh is tender and crisp with an intense acidity that mellows at full maturity. These apples are suitable for fresh eating, sauce, baking, or cider. The flesh does not yellow, making it a great apple for salads and drying. Maiden Blush stores well for at least two months.

Maiden Blush was commonly cultivated in the early 1800's. Named by Samuel Allinson of Burlington, NJ, it was described by Coxe in 1817. It was already a popular variety in Philadelphia and New York at that date.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
