Primevere Apple Scionwood (Spring 2026)

A delicious disease-resistant, long-storing apple from Canada. Also known as Primavera.

This is a vigorous and hardy tree with a standard habit. It is extremely resistant to apple scab but somewhat susceptible to CAR and powdery mildew.

Ripening 2-3 weeks after McIntosh, Primevere produces a large, red apple. It is juicy with a rich, spicy flavor. Its most notable quality, however, is its remarkable storage life. Primevere means "spring", and it is so named because this apple will store, with improving flavor, until spring.

Primevere originates from a 1962 cross of Graham and a breeding selection (F97NJ1). Its lineage includes Rome Beauty, Jonathan, and M. floribunda 821, which imparts scab resistance. The cultivar was selected in 1969 by E. B. Williams and it was released in 1997 through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. It has been tested in Oregon, Quebec, and Kent, England.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
