Virginia Gold Apple Scionwood (Spring 2026)
Also known as Virginiagold.
This tree is very productive and vigorous. It will become biennial if not carefully pruned and thinned.
Virginia Gold is a cross of Newtown Pippin and Golden Delicious. Ripening very late, it has a pretty yellow skin with a pink blush, and the flesh is sweet and crisp. The flavor is distinctive but balanced; it is less sweet than Delicious and less acidic than Newtown Pippin. Virginia Gold attains its best flavor after storage. It is a great dessert apple, and it makes delicious sauces and pies.
Virginia Gold was bred by George Oberle at Virginia Tech in 1976.
