A medium vigor tree originally from France, Reine des Hâtives tends to biennialism and is likely susceptible to fireblight.

An early-season, medium-large sized apple with a conical shape. The skin is greenish yellow skin blushed pink and the flesh is crisp, white, and fine grained. Reine des Hatives yields an astringent, bittersweet juice that is well suited to cider production. It is classed as a bittersweet. (From WSU: Tannin (percent tannic acid): 0.17; Acid (percent malic acid): 0.93; pH: 3.32; SG: 1.044; oBrix 11.5.) This apple is also suitable for fresh eating and baking.

This tree was first raised by a French nurseryman in 1872, and it was brought to England in the 1920's.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
