Martha Apple Scionwood (Spring 2026)

A crispy crabapple from Minnesota.

Extremely cold hardy, this tree is reliably annual and long lived. It is spreading, open, and productive.

Martha is a beautiful rose-red crabapple. It has crisp, juicy, slightly yellow flesh and is largish for a crabapple, about 2" in diameter. The flavor is sweet-tart. This is a great little apple for fresh eating, baking, sauce, and jelly. It is also an excellent addition to cider blends.

Martha was deveoped in 1839 by Peter Gideon, whose most successful creation was Wealthy. Martha and Florence (another crabapple) were named after Gideon's daughters.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
