Saint-Martin Apple Scionwood (Spring 2024)

A bittersweet, vintage-quality cider apple from France. Also known as St. Martin.

The tree is resistant to powdery mildew, but susceptible to fireblight, scab, and canker. It is traditionally used in making cider and calvados in France, but it can also be used for baking.

Saint-Martin is a small apple, yellow-green blushed orange-red, with firm cream-colored flesh. It yields a juice that is bittersweet and considered to be of vintage quality (good for making a single-variety cider) with a Brix ~ 13.5 and acidity ~ 2.27.

It is unclear whether this apple should be distinguished from the British apple St. Martin's.

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
