Winter Sweet Paradise Apple Scionwood (Spring 2026)

A late-season American heirloom. Also known as Winter Paradise.

Productive, vigorous, and reliably annual, Winter Sweet Paradise is, however, susceptible to fireblight. This is a hardy tree, and it is reported to perform best at higher elevations.

Ripens mid-late October in NY, this is a medium-large apple with skin that is red streaked over green. The greenish white flesh is very juicy and sweet with a pear-like flavor. This apple is best for fresh eating or baking. It will store for about twelve weeks.

The first record of this apple dates to 1844, but it is thought to be much older. Bussey (Illustrated History of Apples in the United States and Canada) mentions that the seed was "said to have been brought from Germany by a Mr. Wedekin of York, Pennsylvania in the late 1700s, and was introduced by a Mr. Garber of Columbia, Lancaster County."

Clean vs. Regular

Our clean scion is harvested from trees grown on G.16, which is extremely sensitive to viruses. These trees would not have survived if the scion contained viruses. Our clean wood has not been lab tested. Regular = may contain one of the common latent viruses; this is not usually a problem and can be used with most rootstocks.
