An attractive, highly disease-resistant apple, ideal for organic growers.
G.935 Apple Rootstock (Spring 2024)
A semidwarf rootstock that is more productive and disease resistant than M.26. Also known as Geneva 935.
G.935 is an outstanding semi-dwarfing rootstock. While disease resistance is now taken for granted when it comes to the Geneva rootstocks, G.935 stands out for its productivity; it is highly precocious with a very high yield efficiency, and it also induces nice wide branch angles. G.935 will not produce burr knots or suckering. We strongly recommend that only virus-free scion wood be used. There have been a few issues with some scions.
It is cold hardy to zone 3.
Cornell recommends this stock especially for high-density plantings of weak cultivars. For such plantings, recommended density is 3-3.5' x 11-12' (1320-1037 trees/acre) and for vigorous cultivars it is 3.5-4.0' x 12-13' (1037-839 trees/acre).
G.935 came out of the Geneva, NY breeding program and the work of my father, Dr. Jim Cummins.
