Lovell Peach, Nectarine Rootstock (Spring 2025)

An industry standard peach seedling rootstock. Also known as Prunus persica.
Important Note about Grafting! These rootstocks are not suitable for bench grafting. Peaches do not do well with dormant grafting. We recommend that you plant the stock in the ground and then chip bud them in August.
For standard spacing, Lovell has long been the go-to rootstock. In fact, after recent extensive trials in Geneva, NY, Bailey and Lovell remain the most highly recommended peach rootstocks for the Northeast. Lovell is productive and resistant to bacterial canker, and although it is not as hardy as Bailey, it is an adequately cold-hardy peach rootstock for traditional growing areas. It does not tolerate wet feet, and it is susceptible to a number of problems: crown gall, root knot nematodes, oak-root fungus, and phytophthora. Prune plums on this stock are subject to brown line. Trees will be full-sized, well anchored, and vigorous.
Lovell is compatible with peaches, nectarines, and apricots.
