B.9 Apple Rootstock (Spring 2025)

A great winter-hardy alternative for M.9. Also known as B9, Bud.9, Budagovsky 9.

This dwarfing rootstock produces trees that are roughly the size of those on M.9, but it was bred for the winter weather of central Russia and is very cold hardy. Its red leaves and wood make it easy to spot graft failures in the nursery. This rootstock is very resistant to collar rot and relatively tolerant of fireblight. It produces trees that will grow well on a trellis system or with individual support. It has been compatible with everything we have grafted onto it, and the productivity and precocity of the trees has been good.

B.9 is a cross of M.8 and Red Standard (Krasnij Standard). It is very useful as a dwarfing interstem, and in Poland, B.9/Antonovka-based interstem trees have been planted by the millions.
