OHxF 87 Pear Rootstock (Spring 2024)

A semi-dwarf, fireblight-resistant pear rootstock. Also known as Old Home x Farmingdale 87, Brooks Selection.

OHxF 87 is an outstanding semi-vigorous clonal rootstock that produces pear trees about 75% of the size of a Bartlett seedling. This rootstock is precocious, very productive, winter hardy to zone 4, well anchored, and fireblight resistant. OHxF 87 is also tolerant of soil diseases. These are, simply put, the best pear rootstocks available, and liners are in high demand. OHxF 87 is compatible with all pear varieties.

The OHxF series of rootstocks originated from crosses made more than 75 years ago by Prof. F. E. Reimer at Oregon State University. Reimer was primarily seeking rootstocks that would be fireblight resistant; both parents, Old Home and Farmingdale are highly resistant. Reimer's work was continued by nurseryman Lyle Brooks and by researchers at Oregon State. All the OHxF Series are propagated by cuttings or in tissue culture–with considerable difficulty, as all are reluctant rooters.
