Aurora Pear on OHxF 87 (Spring 2025)

You are viewing a tree that will ship in Spring 2025. You can also find trees for Spring 2024.

A modern dessert pear with outstanding flavor and good storage life. Also known as NY 7620.

Aurora grows on a vigorous, spreading tree that produces reliably. It is easy enough to grow, resistant to scab and mildew, but somewhat susceptible to fireblight.

This is one of our favorite dessert pears. The flavor is exceptional–sweet and aromatic–and the flesh is smooth and meltingly juicy. The fruit is large, regular in form, with a shortish neck. The thin, delicate skin is a golden yellow color that is overlaid with a beautiful russet and often blushed on its exposed face. Aurora is an early-season pear, ripening around the same time as Bartlett, but it has a longer storage life than Bartlett, keeping well until December. This pear is suitable for both home growers and commercial production.

Aurora was developed in Geneva, NY and released in 1964. It is a cross of Marguerite Marillat and Bartlett.
