EbonyPearl® Cherry on Mahaleb (Spring 2025)

You are viewing a tree that will ship in Spring 2025. You can also find trees for Spring 2024.

A large, highly-flavored sweet cherry that ripens midseason. Also known as NY 32.

The tree is spreading and vigorous with good resistance to bacterial canker. Like all cherry trees, EbonyPearl® should be pruned to avoid overcropping. This variety blooms early-mid season and it is not self-fertile; we recommend that it be partnered with Sweetheart™ or Whitegold®, both of which are "universal pollenizers" with compatible bloom times. (This variety is genetically incompatible with any tree in the S1S4 pollen group, which includes Ranier, Sylvia, Hudson, and Black York™.)

Ripening one-three days before Bing, this cherry is the largest and tastiest of the Cornell "Pearl Series." It is very sweet (21 °Brix), but the sugar is balanced with an appealing tang. The fruit is firm and crack resistant, and just 4% cracking was reported for the 2008 season, which saw an inch of rain. An attractive, deep red cherry, EbonyPearl® is an excellent alternative to Bing.

EbonyPearl® was released by Cornell in 2008 along with BlackPearl® and BurgundyPearl®.
