China Pearl Peach on BY520-9. Nematode Resistant Peach/nectarine (Spring 2024)

A cold-hardy, disease-resistant, large white peach.

China Pearl grows on a very vigorous tree that has good resistance to bacterial spot. It is late blooming, and both the blossoms and young fruit have a high resistance to cold damage. This has a semi-upright habit and willowy branches. Growers should note the long chill hours requirement. This variety is self-fertile and a second variety is not required as a pollenizer.

The bloom is a showy and attractive display of red-purple flowers with high fruit set. The peaches are large with an attractive smooth red skin and white, low-acid flesh. This is a great late-season peach for those who like sweeter, less tangy fruit.

China Pearl was developed at the Sandhills Research Station by NCSU. It is a cross of Contender with a non-commercial plant introduction from China. It was selected in 1991.
