Fortune Plum Plum on Myrobalan (Spring 2025)

You are viewing a tree that will ship in Spring 2025. You can also find trees for Spring 2024.

A pretty, very high-quality, midseason Japanese plum . Also known as C36-107 .

Very popular in California, Fortune is a high vigor, upright, and slightly spreading tree. It performs best on heavier soils and is one of the most consistently reliable croppers at Geneva, NY. It is moderately susceptible to leaf spot. This tree is not self-fertile; it will need to be partnered with another Japanese plum. Suitable pollenizers include Burbank, Santa Rosa, and Frier.

The fruit is large and pretty, with a glossy skin that is colored bright red over yellow and speckled with golden dots. The yellow flesh is firm, juicy, and highly flavored. It is clingstone, but the inconvenience is worth it, as this aromatic fruit is perhaps the best of the Japanese plums in our catalog. Care must be taken, however, not to harvest the fruit too early, as the flavor will be mediocre if it is not fully ripe. The crops mature evenly with Friar about ten days before Stanley (late August in upstate NY) and store well. This is a good choice for the back yard or commercial production.

Fortune was developed by the USDA  in Fresno, California and released in 1988.
